National Unity Platform (NUP) supreme leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has summoned an emergency meeting for the top party organ the National Executive Council (NEC) over troubled Bukoto South legislator Dr. However, Kazinda had only declared to the IGG his salary and allowances amounting to Sh83.7M as his known source of income, which prompted court to rule that he could not have accrued all the properties he owned from that salary, hence they were illicitly acquired. The Judge ruled that at the time of his arrest, Kazinda, who is serving a 15 years’ jail term for illicit enrichment, was in control and possession of Shs210m, which he spent on renting apartments from Sheraton hotel for 10 months, owned 4 motor vehicles worth Shs769m, prime plots of land around the city worth Sh3.6Bn, a palatial mansion in Bukoto, among other properties. It should be recalled that in November last year, Tibulya found Kazinda guilty of maintaining a standard of living beyond his income after he failed to account for the vast wealth that was found in his possession at the time of arrest. The development follows a court ruling, last year, in which Anti-Corruption Court Judge Margaret Tibulya directed that Kazinda forfeits all his properties to the state, because they were illicitly acquired, using tax payers’ money. However, today, the IGG spokesperson, Ali Munira, revealed that court directed that Kazinda’s two Mercedes Benzes, both valued at Shs500m and his home in Bukoto, Kampala, valued at Shs3.5Bn, be confiscated by the IGG. It should be noted that since 2012 when he was arrested, Kazinda has been battling corruption cases filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and IGG against him at the Anti-Corruption Court. Kazinda, who is a former Principal Accountant at the Office of the Prime Minister but was convicted abuse of office and causing loss of government funds in a multibillion scandal, has lost property worth over Shs4Bn, after it was confiscated by the office of the IGG. The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has finally bitten Geoffrey Kazinda, a government official accused of corruption, after years of the institution being accused of being a barking dog that never bites.
